Serving the sprawling Circle C Ranch community in Southwest Austin, we recently completed a the removal of an existing residential fence and the installation of a new fence system featuring premium redwood pickets. A new rot board was installed to enhance durability and protect the fence from ground moisture while keeping in mind the rocky limestone terrain typical of this part of the city. The completed upgrade provides improved structural integrity, long-term performance in Central Texas wind and heat, and a refreshed appearance for the property.

In the master-planned Mueller community, we handled the installation of new black aluminum fencing for a multi-unit residential development. The fencing was designed to define private outdoor spaces while maintaining an open, modern appearance that complements the architecture of the townhomes and gives a mixed-use vibe of the East Austin area. Installed along sidewalks and individual patios, the aluminum fence provides durability, security, and low-maintenance performance while enhancing curb appeal and uniformity throughout the property.

We installed a horizontal cedar fence, which is a favorite in South Austin. This project featured the installation of a horizontal wood fence for a residential property near Zilker Park in Austin. The design combines warm, natural wood boards with exposed steel posts finished in a rustic, weathered patina, creating a modern yet organic look that complements the surrounding landscape. The horizontal layout provides privacy while maintaining a clean, contemporary aesthetic, and the steel posts add long-term durability to ensure stability in the area's shifting soil with a distinctive industrial character. This residential fence blends seamlessly with the natural setting while offering both function and visual appeal.

This horizontal fence was designed to combine modern style with natural warmth and long-lasting durability in Hyde Park. The structure features steel posts powder-coated in black for a sleek, contemporary look and enhanced corrosion resistance. Horizontal cedar pickets were carefully installed and stained to highlight the natural grain while providing added protection against the elements. The contrast between the black powder-coated posts and the stained cedar creates a modern aesthetic that elevates the overall property while maintaining privacy and stregth

Austin Fencing Services
In 2026, the average cost to install a residential fence in the Austin metro area typically ranges from $23 to $48+ per linear foot for standard materials, with premium options ranging higher. Your total project cost depends heavily on the material and style you choose:
Note: If your property is in West Austin (Westlake, Rollingwood, Northwest Hills) and sits on solid limestone bedrock, core drilling fees for post holes will typically add an additional labor premium.
Within Austin city limits, a formal building permit is not required for a residential privacy fence that is 6 feet or less in height. You will need a permit through Austin Development Services if:
If your home is outside city limits in Travis or Williamson County MUDs, or in a deed-restricted neighborhood, always check your HOA bylaws on setback lines and approved materials before building.
Austin has two very different soil profiles: West Austin sits on rigid limestone, while East Austin, Pflugerville, and Hutto sit on heavy Blackland Prairie clay. This clay expands when wet and shrinks in dry summers, causing traditional wood 4x4 posts to warp, twist, and lean over time.
We recommend PostMaster steel posts — heavy-duty galvanized inline posts hidden behind your wood fencing panels. They don't rot, they handle the clay soil movement, and they withstand wind loads up to 73 mph, outlasting wood posts by decades.
Horizontal fencing is the dominant choice for modern-craftsman and contemporary homes in Central Austin zip codes like 78702, 78704, and 78757, creating clean lines that visually widen a smaller urban lot.
Western Red Cedar is the best wood for an Austin fence. Its natural oils resist wood-boring insects like termites and moisture rot from humid seasons, and it resists the warping and twisting caused by intense Texas sun better than budget-friendly pressure-treated pine.
Western Red Cedar fences should be treated with a UV-blocking, oil-based stain within 2 to 3 weeks of installation, since cedar dries quickly and early protection prevents the sun from bleaching it gray.
Pressure-Treated Pine fences need 2 to 3 months before staining, since the wood is saturated with chemical preservatives that must dry out first. Staining too early traps moisture and causes the stain to bubble and crack. Pine is ready once it passes the "water drop test," where dropped water absorbs into the wood instead of pooling on the surface.
Texas law does not automatically require a neighbor to split the cost of a boundary fence, unless a signed neighborhood covenant or HOA rule says otherwise.
We recommend discussing the project with your neighbor ahead of time. Many homeowners agree to split the cost of a "Good Neighbor" fence, where the pickets alternate sides so both neighbors get an identical, finished view instead of one side facing the exposed framing rails.
